What many don’t know is that Iranians have been joyfully celebrating this way for thousands of years!

جشن تیرگان؛ طراوتی کهن در دل تابستان کانادا

در گرمای دل‌انگیز تابستان، درست زمانی که طبیعت به اوج شکوفایی می‌رسد، ایرانیان باستان جشنی را برگزار می‌کردند که سرشار از امید، پاکی، و شور زندگی بود: تیرگان. جشنی که از دل تاریخ و اسطوره برخاسته و امروزه در دل جامعه چندفرهنگی کانادا جانی دوباره گرفته است.

تیرگان، در سیزدهم تیرماه (اوایل جولای)، بزرگداشت آرش کمانگیر است؛ قهرمان اسطوره‌ای که با پرتاب تیری از فراز کوه، مرزهای ایران را تعیین کرد و جان خود را فدای صلح و عدالت کرد. اما آنچه این جشن را از دیگر آیین‌های کهن متمایز می‌کند، آیین شاد و پرنشاط «آب‌پاشی» یا همان «آب‌پالشی» است — رسمی که هزاران سال پیش، ایرانیان برای طلب باران، خنکای تابستان، و زدودن غم‌ها به آن می‌پرداختند.
